New Report: Protecting Maternity Care for Newport Families
Be part of a powerful day at the State House as we advocate for critical maternal health legislation led by Rep. Carson and community partners. Whether you’re new to advocacy or experienced, this event will prepare you to make a real impact directly with lawmakers.
Location: Rhode Island State House, 82 Smith St., Providence, RI
Date: Thursday, April 9, 2026
Time: 2:45 PM – 7:00 PM
Agenda
Rally & Speakers (3:00 PM) - Hear from community leaders, healthcare professionals, and advocates sharing why this fight matters.
Direct Lobbying (3:45 PM) - Meet with legislators in the House and Senate. You’ll be guided on exactly who to speak with and what to say. No experience needed (see fact sheet above for information and checkout the Advocacy Fact Sheet HERE)!
Committee Hearing (5:00 PM) - Stay to support or deliver testimony on key bills impacting maternal health and birthing access.
We are advocating to:
Protect and expand access to birthing centers
Ensure accountability for taxpayer-funded healthcare systems
Address maternal health disparities, especially for Medicaid patients and communities of color
Highlight the real impact on Rhode Island families, from postpartum care to travel burdens
This is about equity, access, and making sure every family gets the care they deserve.
Legislators need to hear directly from constituents. During Lobby Hour, you’ll have the chance to speak one-on-one with decision-makers, sometimes in as little as 60 seconds. We’ll make sure you’re fully prepared.
Written testimony is critical! Submit your letter to the House and Senate Health Committees between April 3 – April 9 to ensure your voice is part of the official record. Instructions for how to submit testimony coming soon!
Join hundreds of advocates coming together to drive change. Your presence matters—and your voice can make the difference.
